The Government's offical site.  Has general information on patents and trademarks, searching of patents, and the listing of classifications.

European Patent Office
Home Page for for information on searching patents worldwide

Google Patents
Google has their own site to search patents worldwide. They mainly offer word searching for patents and they are good for finding patents by their numbers and provide translations for foreign language patents and applications, and a lot of bioliographical information about the patents / applications
